What to expect

When you visit with us you will be assessed very thoroughly by your physiotherapist. We will identify the mechanism of injury and confirm your diagnosis. A clear treatment plan for the coming weeks will then be outlined.

Physiotherapy techniques include hands on treatment such as soft tissue release, joint mobilization and dry needling. You also receive instruction in biomechanical correction, strength and flexibility exercise. Various taping and orthotic techniques are considered and injury management at home is discussed.

You will be prescribed exercises to perform at home to help facilitate your recovery and maximise the effect of your physiotherapy.

At times further investigation may be necessary and your physiotherapist will advise you when to pursue radiological investigations and further medical input.

We specialise in treating all levels of athlete and problems

As sports physiotherapists and myotherapists we treat recreational and elite athletes and the wide range of athlete injuries. Broadly you can classify athletes injuries into three groups.

Acute sudden onset injuries – which occur as a result of sudden trauma to muscle, cartilage, disc, tendon or ligament.

Chronic or recurrent injuries – resulting from repetitive strain which may cause gradual breakdown in the integrity of muscle, tendon and joint tissue with associated chronic irritation and pain. These injuries are often associated with faulty biomechanics or follow an initial acute injury.

Post surgical rehabilitation – following orthopaedic surgery when a period of rehabilitation is required to build strength, balance and flexibility to ensure a safe return to your sport and allowing you to perform at your best.

Your treatment will vary according to the nature of the injured tissue and the mechanism of injury. This is discussed with you following your initial appointment and assessment by your Physiotherapist.

  • Biomechanical re-education
  • Sport specific rehabilitation
  • Conditioning programs
  • Postural correction
  • Orthotics and taping techniques

Our primary aim is to safely get you back to sport as quickly as possible

We know you want to get back to the sport you love as quickly as possible. Our focus is to help you achieve that ambition but also to do it safely to minimise the risk of further injury.

Most sport injuries require somewhere between 6 and 10 sessions of physiotherapy over 3 to 4 weeks. This of course varies depending on the severity and long term nature of the problem. After initial higher intensity treatment you move into a period of rehabilitation if required.
